The original Mini, designed by Sir Alec Issigonis was in production for 41 years and was an icon of the 1960s, and voted the second most influential car (behind the Ford Model T) of the 20th Century. BMW (owners of the Rover Group at the time) announced the new MINI in 2000, and it is proving just as popular as the old one. BMW have also recently announced the new MINI Coupé.
